Nortel 5500 Fan Failure Alert!

Hello,

I create a universal device poller for Nortel 5500 MIB. The MIB is for fan failure: If MIB object returns a value of (1) failure. The default value of (2) normal.

How can I create an alert if the MIB object returns a (1)?

BTW the mib for Nortel 5500 fan with SW ver 6.0 is 1.3.6.1.4.1.45.5.1.3.1

That's a good start. You could also have used something like

Poller Name is equal to <whatever you named the UnDP poller>

The only thing left is to add another trigger condition like

Numeric Status is equal to 1

Once completed, your trigger condition might look like this

Have you already created the UnDP poller for this? If so, it should be simple to create an advanced alert to trigger on this condition.

I assume UnDP is universal device poller, yes it created. I am sure creating advanced alert is simple for NPM expert, but for average customers NPM is a tool, kind of luxury and complex tool, not a production server. We do not program alert or logon this server on daily basis.

Here is my advanced alert condtion:

Trigger when all of the following apply
OID is equal to 1.3.6.1.4.1.5.1.3.1

How can I create a trigger when this OID returns a “1”

NPM 10.1.2

I'd like to follow up with the following question:

It is cumbersome to write alert for fan failure in switching stack. My stack or Nortel switches can go up to 8 unit, with total 48 fans. My current alert to notify me if any of the 48 fans has failed:

Trigger alert when all of the following apply

Numeric Status is equal to 1

Trigger alert when any of the following apply:

Poller Name is equal to FAN1

…. (omit 46 more FANx condition)

Poller Name is equal to FAN48

Any easy way to accomplish this task? Using SNMPWALK I can pull all 48 fans condition with one OID, but this OID did not work in Universal Poller
