Anyway to prevent events being logged/shown for a particular component/template/monitor?

Does anyone know of anyway to prevent events being logged/shown for a particular component/template/monitor?

There are things we want to track like presence of a process, event logs, etc that we just need to look at historically. But we don't want them cluttering the events resources (like last 25 or last xx)? We only want to show important events in that list.

Hello,

There is no event type filtering in the resource that would restrict events displayed on details page so far.

What is less automatic is using Events page or Message Central where you can specify object you want and event type you need to see.

I agree it is something different and I'll log internal customer feature request describing your case.

Thanks. Unfortunately that doesn't really help because we have last XX events on many different views depending on what we're monitoring. we don't really spend much time in the message center. maybe we should?

Have you checked out Message Center in NPM 10.1/APM 4.0.1. You can filter, sort and narrow down events.

Thanks. While this is helpful, it's not really what I'm looking for. I'm more looking to make it so that certain types of events are not displayed anywhere (except maybe message center). There are APM monitors that I want to track but not flood the "last xx events" report with. For example let's say I'm monitoring when a process runs but it's not critical that it starting and stopping often overtake the last xx events resource report I can put on a view.

I would love to be able to do event type filtering at a source level for basic events as well. View filtering/Custom reporting in NPM can only give so many options and it can get quite messy it is also no where near as flexible as having filters at source. Two main filter types I would love to see would be:

1. Disable selected basic events at source, filtered by type, node, vendor etc

2. Time delay events from popping up in the event viewer filtered by event type, node, vendor etc. (This is for baisc events only I'm aware of the features available in Advanced alert, which does not apply here)

Good point. Let each monitor have a checkbox that says "record events" so we can say things like "I want to track the value of xyz but I don't need events about it's availability or values". We can create alerts and if we're actively monitoring things, it will go yellow or red if unavailable anyway.

Which reminds me of another: have a checkbox that says "change application status based on monitor's status". Same idea. Some monitors we just want to track but don't need the whole application to be considered red if the value is there or not there.

MrSampsonite, have you tried creating a group using 'Best' roll-up status to achieve the desired result? Using a group this way would mean the group status is green as long as one component in the group is green.
