Hi All,
We currently run a physical deployment of Orion NPM on 2 separate servers, one for the application and the other for the SQL (standard setup, as I believe)..... and alerting via Notepager Pro with a directly connected USB GSM modem / dongle...
We need to upgrade the whole environment, hardware and software - windows server, SQL, Orion NPM.... Because of the cost implications of upgrading SQL to 2014 we are contemplating Virtualising the environment (as we have spare Virtual SQL licences spare).....
This isn't the real issue though....... The biggest concern I have is being able to alert via SMS within a Virtual Server environment..... We are running ESXi V5.5 on a 5 host cluster where the virtual guest (orion) could potentially reside on anyone one of the 5 hosts..... Though 'hardware pass-through' can be configured to allow a guest to be able to see USB ports etc on a host, this is useless if the guest moves hosts....
We have to use SMS alerting just in case our email server goes down or there are issues with the internet connection.....
The most logical way of achieving what I require is to have a network attached device (e.g. Digi Anywhere USB, with an attached USB GSM modem / dongle...) connected to the same network as the ESX hosts..... Orion or a similar application to NotePager Pro, would then send the SMS via IP to the Digi Anywhere device to send the text message.....
Hope this all makes sense, all help will be grateful.......
