Here's an open-ended topic for everybody, one that I feel is fairly universal. We're well into the 21st century now, and we have all kinds of methods to relay information--but humans are still humans, and communication between teams, departments, and even individuals in an organization is consequently still horrible. Admins build out entire environments and neglect to update documentation, systems get abandoned but never decommissioned (which your electric company appreciates), devs field new mission-critical services with full faith nothing could possibly go wrong. Yet when things inevitably crash and burn, all fingers point to the monitoring system, the ever-present front line of blame shifting, with an accusatory "I Never Got An Alert!"
Luckily, if you're reading this right now, you have a tool at your fingertips that can pull information from a source that doesn't omit details, get defensive, or blow off requests. Not intentionally, at least. So the question is this: How do you leverage SolarWinds to work around poor communication in your organization? What do you do to stay one step ahead? Are there any clever hacks you're proud of, any scripts you've written, anything you've built to work around Layer 8 issues?
