Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Monitoring Cisco AS5350 modem Usage
MRoberts
Guys,
Is anyone using SolarWinds to monitor any Cisco terminals servers(As5200 Routers) or the AS5300 univeral access gateways????
I need to monitor and report on call usage and modem usage on my AS5350 and AS5200 universal gateways.
So far I've only been able to monitor the ethernet and serial interfaces
Will Solar winds do this for me??????
Thanks!

You should be able to get this info from your Syslogs if you are syslogging the termservers to Orion.
Another option would be to use the Cisco ACS server, if it is setup for Radius accounting.

Hey, NG, thanks for the reply!
Yes I'm Syslogging those boxes to Orion. I just setup the Syslog server last Friday for a couple of Routers, Some Foundry and these Cisco Universal access router. I'm getting a slew of stuff all from the Cisco access routers which just looks like a lot of gibberish. I haven't quite figured out filtering setup yet...but I'm checking it out now as suggested.
Basically, I'll need to parse all that data and have a display of weekly Call activity, user ID, peak Modem usage, bad connects/Moddem failures, call duration, etc etc.
NG if you, or anyone else, have some no-how on setting a filter(s) for this stuff pls let me know how you get this fun stuff going.
Much Thanks.

I have not yet installed V7.7 and have not yet setup syslogging on our RAS termservers, so I can't help you there Marlon.
It shouldn't be too difficult to parse out the data you need, but I believe the Radius accounting on a Cisco ACS server is a much easier way to get the user stats. Modem stats would have to come from the Syslogs.

You are quite right about using the accounting on the Radius authentication server(s), problem is those servers and logs are remotely controlled and administered from a different location out of state so I gotta make do with my tools. The nice thing is I do see a lotta bits and pieces of the data I want in the Syslogs. The trick is harvesting just what I need without much pain in a nice presentable manner. I'm not big on long script writing but I'll continue to research this stuff. I may get lucky.
As for the rest of the net gurus that pull and aggregate only meaningful information from syslog into reports, that can be executed with scheduler how do you do all that stuff??? This is what I really want to get down into.
Take care!
thanks

I've checked out the FAQs on that link and I'll be giving the trial version a run.
Good find, thanks
