Trigger action to light an external LED strip around a display

Good Evening,

I've just started working for a new customer and they have asked me for a way to light up an LED strip surrounding a display panel.

I could use something like this...

ILS - LED Traffic Light Module Electronic Building Blocks Board For Arduino or this...

So, what I want is a way to activate an LED via a trigger action? is anyone else doing this? does anyone else have a program that they use to activate the LED strip, maybe via an Arduino or Raspberry Pi? Or just via a bit of software...?

I think this is right up patrick.hubbard's alley. In fact, I believe he has stuff like this sitting on his desk right now.

Connect the light strip to a smart outlet like WeMo, then use the Alert Managers's HTTP/HTTPS POST method to send a WebHooks request to IFTTT to turn on the switch. It's actually pretty easy. I use to have Orion start my Roomba whenever I left the house.

you could splice the usb cable through one of the relays and then use the API VM204-Firmware/api_reference.shtml at master · Velleman/VM204-Firmware · GitHub with an GET/POST action on your alert.
