Download configs job stopped working after the upgrade

After the upgrade from NCM 6.1 to 7.0.2 the scheduled download configs job started reporting the errors in about 95 % of the nodes. The error message was "ERROR: Cannot download Running config : No response using the specified credentials,TFTP Host: x.x.x.x". NCM is configured to use SNMP for requesting and TFTP to download configs. I didn't change anything in NCM or on nodes after the upgrade. Curiously, the remaining 5 % of nodes that worked were configured identically.

I tried to recreate the job, configured user credentials for SCP/TFTP server, restarted TFTP server etc.

Now I'm out of ideas. Please advise.

None of your suggestions actually worked, but you got me thinking in the right direction. Thanks.

Today I learned the following.

SNMP R/W community is needed for requesting configs. Everything worked in NCM 6.1, but after the upgrade node settings were obviously taken from NPM and SNMP R/W settings from NCM 6.1 were lost. I had to reconfigure SNMP R/W in NPM for all nodes and then I was able to download configs manually and from the scheduled job by using SNMP/TFTP.

Hi,

Are you able to download the configs in NCM on demand, i.e. not via the job? If not, please enable session tracing (Win32 client -> File -> Settings), try to download the config and take a look at the trace.

Downloading configs on demand doesn't work either. Session tracing directory remains empty. Looks like it only traces Telnet/SSH sessions, while I try to download configs by using SNMP and TFTP.

Have you tried to manually TFTP the config from the device? If that works, it will confirm your TFTP settings are ok. If not, then check that you have RW access to the TFTP folder.

Have you tried changing SNMP Version to either SNMP V1 or V2 in Device Details? And have you double checked that the Community String setting in Device Details is correct?

You could change your backups to be done via Telnet instead of SNMP, maybe that may work for you?

That's really interesting.

I tested it and you are absolutely correct. Without having the RW community listed, it will not download the configs. As soon as I add it in, it works fine. That's a bit strange but I'm glad you got it sorted!
