Solarwinds Newbie: Where to start

Good Evening.

My name is John.

I've been given the assignment of "alarming" (I believe the proper term is alerting" ) a single SQL Server instance on a Windows vm (VMWare)

Various OS attributes, ( Sqsrv & SQL agent services, disk space, CPU, etc) and instance attributes (blocking, database status ( ie, not suspect), etc)

need to be alerted.

Once empowered with this knowledge, I'm then to go forth and "alert" a number of SQL Server instances, both production and non-production.

I am new to Solarwinds. Please be gentle.

? Where to start ?

Please advise.

First get the monitors in place, there are a few resources there to get you started and once the monitoring is in place, then it's time to set up the alerts.
