should be a simple question

I am fairly new to the ORION software package. Our company used what'sup Gold for node monitoring in the past.

Let me state for the record I am not a coding wizard, I can figure things out if pointed in the right direction.

I would like to setup a daily or twice daily report that lets me know ORION server and software is functioning.

I thought about using the Alert manager, this presents a couple problems.

I do not see a way to specify a time like 7am and 6pm, i could set the alert to poll every 12 hours and make sure to start it at 6am or pm.

if the server that Orion installed on goes down, that would not work.

So here is what I would like to do. I would like to create an Alert that pages me at 7:00 am and 6pm each day telling me that orion server is up and running. This is not the best solution, ideally it would be good to have a report/alert that monitors the Orion Server. That would probably require us buying another license for Orion which I am pretty sure my company would not go for.

Well I tried setting up an advanced alert that would poll every 12 hours. all the following trigger conditons needed to be met.

Nodename is equal to OrionHTC

Nodestatus is equal to up

It should then send a email to me with a body of: ${Caption} status is ${Status}

It don't work.

Can any one help me with this?

Are you not receiving the alert at all or are you not receiving any alert after the initial one?

I am receiving no alerts after the first one even though the trigger is set to ever 12 hours.

I am now starting to think the trigger reset may be the problem. Nothing is defined in the trigger reset. Since it was triggered once and never reset, it may not be able to trigger again.

If my thinking is correct, I need to know how to reset the trigger even though the triggered event is not changed.

I don't think that's necessary but if you want to try it, why not configure the reset condition to match the trigger condition?

I'm assuming that it doesn't even appear in your list of active advanced alerts.
