What tables are used in storing this data. Is there a way to estimate the impact of increasing the 7 day Baseline Collection to 14 days? to 28 days?
Hello,
The baseline statistics are collected from APM_ComponentStatus_Detail, APM_PortEvidence_Detail, APM_ProcessEvidence_Detail and APM_DynamicEvidence_Detail tables. If you want to increase Baseline Collection setting then you have to also increase retention period for Detail tables in SAM. So then the amount of data and size of these tables will increase (based on number of days) and it could have impact for performance of the charts, historical reports, DB maintenance etc. The impact depends on number of components and performance of SQL server:

Thank you.
Is there any way to select only the components you are intrested in increasing?
For example: Server X and Y because they are financial in nature and we need a full period for accurate baseline measurement.
Not at this time. The baseline statistic data retention period is a global setting that effects all components across all applications. The basis of a statistical baseline is that it's a quiet period of time when all statistical data collected is considered "normal" behavior for the environment If it was extended beyond a reasonable time period, you would likely find greater occurrences of anomalous variation outside the "norm" that would be factored into the statistical baseline, thus defeating the purpose of a baseline. Consequently, this is also one of the reasons why moving baselines tend to be considered far less accurate, because they can often times hide legitimate problems in the environment as these anomalies are calculated into the baseline. As such, these anomalous values are considered "normal" resulting in no thresholds being crossed, and no alerts being raised, when illegitimate issues are occurring in the environment.
