Interface down

We have several cisco switches which alert on interface down, works ok, via SNMP polling not traps. Added some new interfaces, which were already down and haven't since come up ( but may do hence the need to monitor ). These new interfaces show as down in Solarwinds but there haven't been any alerts for them. Does Solarwinds need to see the interface come up first before it will alert on interface down.

Hi, aussiem65 it really depends on your alert trigger conditions. By default, if your looking for any interface with a down status, then you would get an alert as soon as the down interface is added to SolarWinds.

Could it be you are only looking for specific Nodes or Interfaces, and that's why you're not getting any alerts?

That's possibly the issue, we don't have management access to check, but have asked the question internally.

Question, do we need to get an event to get the alert to trigger. We searched for events as well as alerts and saw no interface down when or after it was added

Hi aussiem65 this is within SolarWinds not the device itself, do you have access to the alert to show me the alert trigger conditions?

This alert is normally based on Status rather than a Trap/Syslog event.
