Is it possible in NCM to compare a text file config against other running configurations? It seems that this would be a very useful feature to have available. Does anyone else have a workaround using Engineer tools or another method?
Hi Kitt - thanks for the additional explanation. I was going to suggest using the baseline feature and/or the policy reporting functionality, but your explanation makes it clear why you can't do that. I'll get this entered as a feature request.

Hi KittCarson - this isn't possible with NCM. I can enter it as a feature request. Could you give me a little more information about the use case? In what sorts of situations would you want to do this?
There are two cases where we want to do this;
In one case, we wanted to check running configurations against our template - which is a text file that is "frozen" until changes are authorized through the CM process.
In the next case, a co-worker is rolling out a new core L-3 switch and needs to compare multiple current, running configs against the configuration he is building (in his editor).
So, it is always when you don't actually have the configuration on a device yet.
And I was thinking that this could also be a great tool for doing modular ACL changes. The way we do it is that the base ACL is always the same, and then we have a section to add/replace ACEs at the bottom of the ACL for local customiztion - for instance in a WAN site.
Thanks for considering the feature request.
