Please allow for an "older than" method to make NCM be able to easily align with Internal and External mandatory retention policies for device configurations.

Are you suggesting improvement (to this window, for ex) that would allow to define the retention policy based on the X last stored config?
If yes, why is the second control not meeting your requirement (Delete All Except the X most current)?
Can you also elaborate on what you mean by "Internal and External"? A use case would help.

This is for a scheduled job, not adhoc on demand.
How do I say delete all Configs older than 18 months in a monthly scheduled job without having to modify the job every month? Delete all except last XX doesn't suffice.
External - ISO 27001, 27002
Internal - Legal Department.
I'll open a req for a purge based on age of the config file backed-up vs the number of config files, which are not equivalent if the Real Time Config Change Detection is used (in this case you cannot predict reliably how many files will be backed-up every day). (44037)
I would like to hear others about this purge requirement and whether or not they use Real Time Config Change Detection
