NCM won't download config for Alcatel OmniSwitch 6400?

Hello everyone!

So, my brand new implementation of NCM recognizes my OmniSwitch 6400 just fine, but it won't download the config.

Instead, I get the following error: "Possible connectivity issues are stopping NCM from receiving a properly formatted device configuration file.

I've successfully accessed the switch from the NCM server using PuTTY, and I see SSH going back and forth, so authentication and connectivity do not appear to be the issue. Does anyone have any insight? Are Alcatels not supported by Orion NCM?

You'll need to go through a small troubleshooting exercise. I suppose you have NCM 7.0.x. In the Win32 client, go to File -> Settings and enable session tracing. (If you happen to have NCM 7.1 RC, you can do the same in NCM settings in the Web UI.) Then try to download the config again. You can find the trace on the NCM server in NCM installation directory. Take a look at the trace and maybe it will tell you where the problem is. If you are not sure what the trace says, post it here and I'll help you.

I had to figure this one out already. Let me see if I can help.

I was only able to get one configuration out of the switch since there is no concept of running & startup configuration. I know there is a working and certified config, but I did not get into the work it would take to FTP files off the switch. I just used the text capture that is being used for the Cisco switches.

First you need to create a new "device template" for the Alcatel devices. This file tells NCM how to download the configuration. Here is what mine looks like...
