Unable to distribute certificates to EminentWare and WSUS server resources

When trying to create a self-signed certificate for one of the WSUS servers it fails with the dreaded 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' message. I read some other posts and tried the advice to refresh the WSUS server in the tree pane, and also tried logging in to the EminentWare/WSUS server as the local admin. Neither had any impact on the problem. Pleae help!!

Also, when I do get the certificates to create and distribute, do I use the same certificate for all of the servers? Each WSUS server is in a different geographical location and has its own set of local clients. None are downstream servers.
