Calling All VMware vCenter Admins (2,000 THWACK Points)

We're currently doing some research around VMware vCenter logging support with Log and Event Manager. In order to accomplish our research and understand the format of the vCenter logs, we need log samples from vCenter instances, ideally vSphere v6 or v6.5. You can view information on the location of the logs files via this VMware KB - Location of VMware vCenter Server log files.

Based on our research, vCenter admins are primarily interested in the main vCenter server log, namely vpxd.log. However, if there are other log files within vCenter you are interested in monitoring, we'd really like to obtain log samples and discuss the use cases for monitoring these various logs with you.

Please submit compressed log samples to my e-mail address below. If your sample is too large to transmit via e-mail, just let me know and I can provide file sharing details. Please note that all log samples will be treated confidentially. Sanitized logs will also suffice.

Thwack points will be awarded on receipt of log samples.

How did this call out slip past me for so long? I'll be working on this and get something back to you next week if that is okay?

For the record, I am interested in logging for VM administrative actions such as: Guest creation/deletion, stop/start, and others (I will need to dig up notes to get more specifics). Is that what you are interested in?
