I have a slightly different issue. The error is: "Publishing operation failed because the console and remote server versions do not match." Anyone know what to do, how to fix?
Cheers
This is a fairly straight forward issue that will occur whenever the WSUS console version does not match the version installed on the WSUS server. You'll want to manually apply the hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211 against your Patch Manager server. Let us know if that doesn't resolve the issue.
Hey, there.
Check out the following KB article: SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Apply Microsoft updates for WSUS to your Patch Manager servers as well.
The basic gist is that all components in your publishing environment (WSUS servers, Patch Manager servers, WSUS consoles, etc.) have to be running the same exact version for them to work. The article also provides instructions on how to check what components aren't compliant with that requirement.
Hope that helps.
Phil
I got this error when trying to use the PM MMC console I had installed on my workstation. I upgraded my PM server with the latest patch which brought my server up to version 1.72.219.3. On my server the patch upgraded both the server and the Console to the 1.72.219.3 version. However when i tried to run that patch on my local workstation where i just had the PM console installed, i got an install error. Because of this I have been forced to use the PM Console on the PM server. Turns out its faster that way anyway.
When you launch your PM console do you get a Version Check warning that reads:
"The EminentWare Server version (1.72.219.3) is greater than the EminentWare console version (1.72.218.2) and may not be compatible. It is strongly recommended that the EminentWare console is upgraded to the same version as the EminentWare server."
If so, then this could be your issue.

Thanx Phil. Unfortunately the verification wizard comes up green on both servers. Still getting the error when publishing. Cheers Bj
Mark - I see no errors or warnings when I load it. The verification wizard comes up green on both my WSUS server and my Eminentware server. But after downloading a Flashplayer update and 'Publishing' it, I get the error:'

I have installed KB2720211 on my WSUS Master, Primary App Server and my laptop but haven't installed it on all of my donstream servers, does 2720211 have to be installed on all WSUS servers? I would have thought I only need it on my WSUS Master as this is the publishing server, my only thought is that my WSUS downstream servers are also automation servers and is that why I would need all servers patched?.
I have followed all of the instructions in the postings above and still have the remote and server versions do not match error, i have checked the help about in the Updaets Services console on all servers and they all say 3.2.7600.226, I also noticed in another article mention of microsoft.updateservices.baseapi.dll and version being consist and all mine are 3.2.7600.251 which I think was installed by update 2720211.
Any help greatly appreciated everything worked fine until i installed 2720211 on my WSUS master to generate the 2048bit self sign cert. My last option is installing the 2720211 updaet on all downstream servers but this would involve long winded change process as these servers aare geographically located all around the country and host other services as well as WSUS.
I've seen the same error occur after a more recent wsus update (KB2734608) has been applied against the WSUS or Patch Manager server. Check to see if either machine has this update.
