NCM Capabilities

Ok - so, NCM is backing up my configurations, and gives me some inventory views into my devices, but is it possible to have NCM parse the config files?

For example, I need to check over 200 (cisco) devices for correct logging and snmp configuraitons. I have been looking at this for about an hour, and I dont see any way to parse a config, and report on certain things -

Manually, I would login and do a "show run | inc logging" or "show run | inc snmp". This would give me the portions I wanted, but I would like to leverage NCM for this - just not sure how.

I would prefer some type of "Report" rather than looking at a log file.

You could always create a command script to run only those specific commands and set that to run on a schedule. This would then produce the information for you to look at. You can also choose to run those adhoc from the website to see this information without reading every line in the config.

that woudl have be the same as looking at a log file. Not really what I am after - I need more of a report instead of a job log/output.

That just isn't something pulled in a report since that's all based on inventory and node detail information. You may want to feature request it. I'd vote it up.

Use the Compliance Tools and Build Policies that can check any part of the configuration, This will alert you to differences in configuration from the policy and allow you to design remediation to correct missing or improper configurations.

I agree w/ jmodjeski -> the policy builder is a separate GUI and very useful for this type of thing.

you can check interfaces specific parameters by using "check config block" area where you put in string to match beginning and end of block. for cisco this might look like:

start: ^interface

end: !

You can create your policies in Web UI, too.

Yup, under the Configs Tab, you'll find "Compliance".

It's easy to use.
