I want my Orion Web page to load Fast

The first thing i would recommend to use the Navigation Tabs . This will reduce the amount of load on single page to load .

Only Add "Resources" which you really need to load on the First Tab (Summary Home Page )

Do not overload single Tab with resources .

Netowrk Atlas High resolution MAP background Even not to use any Map background page will load extremely quick

Resource Time Period Try to use the Less Hours / or less amount say Last 10 Events / Last Hour

Use Multiple Navigation Tabs

Move extra load to other tabs you do not need to view on summary page .

move the resources to each Tab / Add more tabs if needed Do not over load single Tab

When using any Resources try to use the Less Hours / or less amount say Last 10 Events / Last Hour

Use Top XX Type of Resources and Try to use less amount to load such as 10 / 5 Top

Try not to use more then 2 Column unless you really need to do that and do not overload with Resources.

The problem with the tabs is it pushes you to multiple panes of glass. I'm not a believer in the SPOG ever becoming a reality, but I like to avoid separate views and the hunt for the cheese.

Another option to help speed everything up is to deploy an additional polling engine and move all polling off of the primary application server. I've been told that deploying the additional web console also helps but I have not tried that.

Moving the polling or adding the additional web console?

I've got 5 additional pollers with anywhere from 5000 to 7000 elements on each. I try to keep no more than 1500 elements on the primary server. This made the difference between a usable and an unusable system.

Doing both could help. Moving most, if not all, of the polling to the APEs will help, and if you have a large number of users, directing them through the additional web server would help as well,

The issue that I have found with the additional Web Server is that when an alert is sent the link within to view the "issue" always point to the primary poller and the users then start using the primary poller and NOT the additional Web server. I am still trying to find a way to provide the link to the WebServer and not the primary poller.

Configure the Orion database to use the send out the Additional Website URL

- 1. Log on to your Orion server using an account with administrative rights.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  3. Click Shutdown Everything.Note: It may take a few minutes to stop all services.
  4. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager.
  5. Click Add Default Server.
  6. Expand your Orion database in the left pane. Default Database names will be SolarwindsOrion or NetPerfMon.
  7. Right-click the Websites table, and then click Query Table.
  8. Select Execute.
  9. Next you are going to reference back to the SSL Certificate Friendly Name, this name will go into the <ServerName> Field.
    1. If you do not know, do not update this column.
  10. Replace the default query with the following query:UPDATE dbo.Websites SET ServerName=’<ServerName>’, Port=’80’ SSLEnabled=0 WHERE Type=’primary’
  11. Click Execute Query.
  12. Right click on the Websites Table again and select Query Table, and Select Execute query.
  13. Make sure that the ServerName appears as correct, and a Port is set and if SSL is to be required that it is set to 1.
  14. Now you will restart the services so that the Alerting and Reporting System will utilize this new URL for all actions. The Orion Web Link in the start menu will be updated at this same time.
  15. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  16. Click Start Everything.

Yes. You will have to reset it.

Works well if you have a lot of pollers(UnDP), or table pollers and you are pulling entire tables... and large/enterprise environment.

So run the configuration wizard first to optimize the web site (check that little box, or un check if it says Skip Website Optimization)

I have my environment set up to use 2 additional web servers which take a lot of the load off the main engine. Yes, you have to fix the database entries everytime you run the config wizard. I also have my web address using a cname through our IP address manager with the ssl cert to match it, and that is the name i have put in the database field for websites. So when anyone tries to go to the Orion web console in my organization they enter the generic name i gave it _ solarwinds.company.org_ and that sends it to our netscalers which load balance between the 2 additional web servers. It is a littel extra work any time you run config wizard but keeps everyone off your main engine.
