I recently installed the Linux agent on a system for which data collection and monitoring was done via SNMP. To activate the agent, once installed, required that I delete the system (node) and readd it by specifying agent rather than SNMP. Prior to doing so, I attempted to activate the new collection type/mode by rediscovering the node and also by unmanaging/remanaging the system to no avail.
Is there a means by which the newly installed agent is recognized as the collection approach and disabling SNMP collection? The only means by which I could get the agent collection to activate was by deleting the node and adding back w/ Linux agent collection. This resulted in the loss of all historical data collected using the SNMP approach.
It is important that there is continuity of data and also retention of data when changing from SNMP to agent collection. Without such, capacity planning (linear trending) is unavailable for a period of time and past data is not considered in trend analysis.
