Alerting, Escalation and Time of Day

Good afternoon,

I have several questions related to Alerting, Escalation and Time of Day. These are related in some form to each other and I have not been able to find a clear answer in the forum. Please if you know where these answer are in the Forum, reply with the link. Otherwise, please reply with suggestions, answers, fortune telling and other magical tricks.

Here we go:

FIRST- If a trigger for an alert happens during a black out of TIME OF DAY for the alert, AND the condition STILL EXISTS when the black out is over; will Orion send an Alert?

Example: Server crashes on reboot during ignore time period (between 11:30pm and midnight). Come 12:01am the server is still down, will an Alert go out since the triggered event happened during the Blackout time?

SECOND- I want to setup an Escalation Email Alert to trigger 7 days after the original alert has gone out. I understand how to set the time and "T+" escalating rule. However I only want the Escalating Alert to go out during business hours Monday thru Friday. If the original alert happened off hours, how would the escalating alert trigger? A little like the first question but not exactly.

In regard to your second problem I would suggest a secondary alert be created just for the escalation. You can copy the original and modify the time settings as needed. Set the Time of Day in the alert setting to the after hours so it will only trigger after hours. To get the e-mail make sure to set the Time of Day in the e-mail condition to business hours M-F. The alert should then trigger as requested. I know it's a pain to make a second alert but it seems to be the only way to get the granularity we need sometimes.

I second what John said. This is how we have always handled these situations.

And your first question... The answer should be yes, the alert will fire if the condition still exist after the maint window is closed because orion will resume its normal operation based on its polling cycles. If it polls the node after the maint window has ended and gets no response, it is assumed down and your alert should fire as normal.
