Patch Manager showing previously published but since deleted patch in Web Console

When I publish a new patch, I want to get rid of the old patch. At the moment, i see more than one patch for a particular product (e.g. shockwave). What are the correct steps to ensure only the most recent patch is published and available? I have attached a screenshot of the web console showing the products that have multiple patch versions.

I have patches that I NEVER published, deleted them when they first appeared in my console (as they were not needed in our organization), and yet they reappear now daily no matter how many times I keep deleting them.

So scheduling the server cleanup wizard to clear out superceded updates every week will do some good. The other thing to do is go to all updates and filter approval: any except decilned and status: any, then make sure you have all filters cleared for approved for computer groups and then sort on the supercedence information column. Delete any third party updates and decline any superceded microsoft ones.

One tip about doing that is make sure you scroll to the end of the non superceded when you get done with them because youll also have a lot that are both that you will want to delete/decline as well.

Is this in relation to 3rd party updates that keep showing up under Software Publishing -> [vendor folder] ?

If so, go to Administration and Reporting -> Software Publishing -> [right-click to select Synchronization Settings] -> [click on 2nd tab called Subscription]

That will show you a list of all the 3rd party package catalogs that you are 'subscribed' to. If there is something checked in there that you don't care about, uncheck it.

In my case, no, it is not with Third Party updates or under Software Publishing.

shtech, in that case you'll want to either

Go into WSUS settings (either in the native console under Options or from Patch Manager by right-clicking the WSUS server name) and go to "Products and Classifications", then un-check the products you no longer want updates for, or
DECLINE the updates instead of deleting them. This would make the binary content for them unavailable and although the update will still exist on the WSUS servers, machines would no longer see it as an update that they can get.

Essentially, if you just Delete the updates but the "Product" they are in is still selected for synchronization from Microsoft, they'll just come back the next time that synch happens.

As frgpugs has noted, one option is to simply Delete the old versions off of the WSUS server if you are sure they are no longer needed by any of your machines. This is the most definitive way to get rid of the old ones.

The other option is to Decline the old versions (which would make them not available to WSUS clients but they would still exist as updates on the WSUS server) or you could Expire them from the Patch Manager console (which would make them unavailable AND allow the Server Cleanup Wizard he mentioned to eventually (typically 30 days) clean them up for you later).
