I'm getting this error on several clients while trying to run the client certificate management task. How do I resolve this?
I've seen this happen whenever the certificates were previous deployed via group policy. Is this the case in your environment by chance?
Thanks for replying!
Yes, we've deployed via group policy. How do I get out of this mess?
I'd recommend removing the old certificates from the policy, and then just import the new ones. They should be located within the policy applied to the affected computers under Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Public Key Policies. Once in this section you'll find the WSUS self-signed certificate in both the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" and the "Trusted Publishers" folders. For specific instructions I'd recommend to check out the instructions starting on page 17 of the Patch Manager administrator's guide.

I deleted the certificates manually and re-ran the task and had success. Seems crazy that there's no logic built into that task though. Thank you for your help!
