Scheudled Export of IP Monitor Settings

Is there anyway to schedule exporting IP Monitors settings? I looked to see if there were any command line statement with IP Monitor...but I have not found any. If there is then it would be easy to setup an batch file and have it run as a scheduled task.

Hello Ekrengel,

There is a way to schedule a backup, however, there is no way to schedule an export. Having that said, do you simply wish to backup your ipMonitor configurations or you require the XML for importing into a 3rd party application?

I don't need the xml...I thought using the export was the only way to backup ipMonitor. Can you show me how to schedule the backup...and what it will backup?

If you simply want to backup the configurations and not the statistics, perform the following:

Click "Configuration" tab.
Click "Scheduled Maintenance Tasks"
Click "Recurring Internal Maintenance"
Insert a check for "Archive ipMonitor Configuration"
Next to "Encrypt Credential", click the "Select" button.
From here, select or create a Credential. Otherwise, your Credentials and accounts will not be backed up.
Select the days you wish to have the backup run and it will run on that day at midnight.

The backup file will be within c:\program files\solarwinds\ipMonitor\backup\. Use ipm9restore.exe within the ipMonitor installation directory to restore the backup file.

To backup your configurations AND statistics, I recommend simply writing a batch file which performs the following commands:

net stop ipmonitorsrv
xcopy c:\progra~1\solarw~1\ipMonitor9\ c:\backup\ /E /I
net start ipmonitorsrv

and configure the Windows Task Scheduler to run the batch file at the desired times.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for, only 1 thing I would want to try to change: I like the first option, because it is within ipMonitor, and I wouldn't have to stop the services. Although I don't see an option where I can browse to another file path to save the backup.

Is there a way to change this? I see the "backup file pattern", but that's not the path. Ideally, I'd like to have it go to a network share.

xcopy can do that...but I still don't want to stop the services if I don't have to.
