Bits or Bytes for volume space available

I've been working on setting up current space available alerts and am getting some confusing results.

I'm looking for any instance where any of the fixed disks on a particular group of servers drops below a gig. I've tried both bits and bytes in the field after less than or equal to ... but continue to get emails on certain nodes whose available disk space is clearly above a gig. In reading through the forums I've found instances where folks switch to volume Space Available by Percent, which works as far as i can tell, but I would prefer not to use the disk space available by percent if at all possible; % is too general of a parameter for the wide range of disk sizes in this group of server, and I literally only need to know when the available space has dropped below a gig.

It sounds like you may have found a bug.

In the meantime, you could create a custom poller that retrieves hrStorageUsed (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.3.1.6) for your volumes. Once you have that information for each of your servers you could create a report against the information.

Wilson, volume space is recorded in bytes.

Try this configuration below and see if it does what you are asking. The sample below is an alert condition for Windows fixed disk's nodes having 1 GB or less space remaining.

And the message can be configured like;

and the mail you receive will look like;

This works in our shop without false positives. Maybe it will work for you too...

folks, thanks for all the help, i hate to admit that the issue was a mistype in the variables on my part.

i had -

${SQL:Select Substring ('${Caption}',1,3) AS Caption} on ${NodeName} has depleted to ${VolumeSize}

in the body of my email messages... It was throwing me off to see such large volume sizes thinking of course that i was looking at space available...

I should have had

${SQL:Select Substring ('${Caption}',1,3) AS Caption} on ${NodeName} has depleted to ${VolumeSpaceAvailable}

i very much appreciate the quick responses. i also appreciate Scottd's example... i think that's more efficient than what i had set up for a message. Both work for my nodes i tested over the weekend.

I'm glad you got it worked out! Also, since we're firmly in MS SQL land, you can use Left() instead of Substring() if you only need the first X characters.

I'm not a SQL guy at all, so I'm trying to make this work. I was able to get my alert to display in MB, but how did you get the 750 to round up to a whole number?
