NCM Report - Is it possible?

Hey folks - we have had NCM install for a while, and do the basic backup/reporting fucntions. Today, I decided I was going to see if we can take advantage of this tool, and try to run a report that would show me a listing of what syslog servers are configured on each device.

Is it possible to create this as an inventory report, or is it not possible?

This is my first attempt at creating a custom report, and I dont see many options about searching through the config for specific strings.

(I am wanting to search/report on any device with the "Logging " command in the config - since its possible to have up to 4 different IP's, I am hoping to get a report that just shows me whats on the device.

I do this type of thing one of two ways (neither of which might be right for you)...

1. use a job to run a command "sh run | i logg.*192.168" or something of the like. this would return all rows matching and as it is a job, you can log to file, email results, etc. You'd have to review the text output.

2. use policy manager and create a new report/rules/policies to make the query. this is graphically represented and gives a nice quick glance result set. You could set up a rule for each IP or a rule that says at least one IP (or both)....

might consider updating to latest NCM though for the policy stuff.

a really quick way to do this is right from the main NCM page on the Quick Start tab and click on the Execute Command Scripts.

Add all the nodes that you want and in the "Command Script to execute" area type in the following:

show run | i logging

This may produce some additional logging information but gives you what you're looking for. You can have the results exported to a file in the options at the bottom of the page.

Thanks Larry - The Policy options is just what we were looking for.

glad to help. I did put a feature request in for them to port NPM's reporting into NCM so we could do custom SQL....down the road!
