Alerting on Cisco E1 Controllers

Hi All

Very new to Solarwinds and Thwack, but thought I'd ask this question anyway

I've been trying with very little success to set up email alerts for when E1 Controllers go down from Cisco Routers

I've attached the syslogs which I'm trying to capture and also the Trigger and reset conditions (I have tried different conbinations but nothing seems to work)

This maybe my lack of understanding on Solarwinds, but any help or guidance would be really helpful

Hey Mark,

The image on the left is from the Syslog Viewer and the one on the right is the Advanced Alert Manager - they don't work with one another. The syslogs and trap handling in SolarWinds are completely separate from the rest of Network Performance Monitor. I know it's misleading because you can see syslog & traps in the web console but they're really separate. The syslog viewer includes its own rules and actions that can be configured to fire when a particular message comes through syslog (it's the little yellow triangle in the bar).

The dialog on the right (Advanced Alert Manager) is for interface events that Network Performance Monitor is privy to. For example, if you're monitoring five interfaces on a device and they change state (operationally up to administratively down), you can get an alert about it. It sounds like this might be what you're looking for.

Are you monitoring that device and its interfaces in NPM?

I wasn't aware that the Syslog and trap handling were completely separate - again this come down to my lack of understanding of the Solarwinds environment

It looks like you have given us enough pointers on how to properly set up the alarms we needs

In answer to your questions yes we have NPM and are monitoring device and it interfaces.

Thanks again for your response - we'll go back and try to set these alarms up again
