AP Alerting

Question

Hello, I have created an alert as shown below, using one of the canned alert templates, but it does not appear to work as intended.  The trigger condition which I have set, is to send an email when the AP goes down, but there appears to be a 10-15 delay from the point that node goes down, till I receive the email.  What could be the possible cause of this?  Thanks

I've been leaving the polling interval values at the defaults.

The right value for the "Condition" option is going to depend on your wireless environment. For example, our environment can shuffle wireless APs between controllers in response to changes in load, planned maintenance, and so on. This can cause a brief outage on an AP, but we don't need it to trigger an alert, so my alert definition might require the AP to be down for a couple of minutes. If that's not an issue in your environment, you might not need to set a condition option at all (let Solarwinds alert as soon as it notices an AP is down). If you find you get a number false alerts, you might have to increase the wait time.

Hi m-milligan, I have the Condition option set to 1 minute.  What would be the recommended value that I should be using?

How frequently does Solarwinds poll your wireless controllers? Solarwinds learns the status of APs by polling the controller. If there's a delay polling the controller, the alert will be delayed.

In your alert's "Trigger Condition" page, have you checked the "Condition must exist for for than N minutes" box (see below)? If you have, how many minutes did you specify?
