new nodes blinking yellow to red

Help,

lately I have had a problem with new nodes added to the database Solarwinds. the icon in NMP is grey and says unknown. Also when I look at the web page where the device is located its blinking red & yellow and never changes to solid green like it should.

any ideals ???

Hello Jack,

Can the server where Orion lives ping your red & yellow blinking devices?

If not therein lies the problem.

If so then you have another issue which could be related to any number of things.

One other thought: unknown devices are typically listed when the device does not respond to SNMP or is some goofball type vendor that Orion cannot resolve. So you may want to take a look at your SNMP settings for Orion to be sure the community names you have listed match those being used by all of your monitored devices.

Hi Isaac,

Yes, I can Ping the devices from Orion. As far as the snmp community string its definitely the right one. I would thing that if I did not use the right SNMP it would not create the node.

The only way I can make these Icon showing green is if I reboot the Solarwinds server.

If you go to add a device and it responds to ping but not to SNMP Orion will still add the device as an unknown.

Now on to your real problem. It sounds as if you may have an issue with your poll settings. Depending on the version of SW you are running there are issues related to polling based on the number of devices being monitored and the frequency of polls.

It could be an issue of polls per second being tuned for your environment.

The devices are cisco routers and switches.
