I need information on configuring alerts for node up and down and other categories. Also let me know where I can mention smtp and mail address for the same.

You go into Advanced Alert Manager from the Orion Program group under Alerting, Reporting, Mapping... then goto view configured alerts... inside each alert you configure trigger actions and one of them can be Send Email/Page. This is where you put the smtp address for the specific alert.
