Hi Guys,
I may have missed this , but can anybody point where can I get tutorial/step by step intructions of how to upgrade from Cirrus 4 to the latest NCM 5.0.
Thanks.
Hi,
To upgrade Cirrus 4 to NCM 5.1 (NCM 5.0 is no more the latest), you will simply have to run the NCM 5.1 installer on the top of the Cirrus 4 installation.
Before to do that:
1- backup the database
2- backup your custom Device Templates: \Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\DeviceTypes
3- backup your custom reports: \Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\Reports
4- backup your custom scripts: \Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\Scripts
5- backup your jobs: \Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\Jobs and from My Computer > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks, copy the jobs.
6- backup the Config-Archive folder in the installation path.
7- Ensure a NCM version 5 license is available on your customer portal to avoid being stuck in the middle of the installation.
8- Ensure you have the sa SQL account or an account with sufficient rights to make changes to the Cirrus/NCM database structure.
9- Keep the old installer in case you need to roll back for any reason to the Cirrus 4 .

EDIT: Roll Back Procedure:
a) Uninstall NCM. Empty the \Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\ folder.
b) Restore the Cirrus Database Backup you took before to upgrade. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177429.aspx
c) Reinstall Cirrus 4 and connect it to the restored database.
d) Restore the Folders you backed up.
At the end of the installation, check that you can download the config from all your devices (test at least one of each model you have), test the jobs as well.
If you have Orion NPM, you can install the Integration package on the NPM web server and thus enjoy some new web-based features directly from the NPM web console.
I think I have listed everything...If anyone has anything else to add, feel free to contribute.
HTH,
Yann
Hi Yann,
This is certainly helpful. I have successfully migrated into NCM 5.1 with no data loss.
Thanks for your tips.
