Why is my Parent Node Green but the Child Indicator LED Red?

So I noticed that this happened with my Cisco Switch. It was up and running but one of my interfaces it was polling was down because I purposely unplugged the CAT5 in that interface. Is this the only reason why my Child LED would be red? What would be other reasons why this would be? Let's say all my ports are green but a PC on that switch got turned off, would this create the same results?

The answer very much depends on how you have your dependency setup and if you are using groups or not. Don't forget that dependencies are Parent > Child. So if a Parent device goes offline it informs the child devices not to alert by putting them in a warning state. If a child device goes offline and the Parent node is up, it should correctly alert as such.
