Since we are in the time of year when, typically, things slow down a bit, I thought I'd have a little fun on the forum.
I've seen and interacted with more than a few THWACksters who appear to be, um, "seasoned" dogs like me, so I'm curious about something. I started playing around with technology in the mid-70's, cutting my teeth on a TRaSh-80 Model I with BasicA and Z-Basic. Then, in the early-80's, I started going around to flea markets and finding old computers that people were discarding, taking the parts out and piecing together machines that worked. Haven't really stopped doing that, actually! :-8
Anywho, my curiosity stems from my personal situation at home: I am a HUUUUUGE packrat when it comes to tech so I thought it would be fun to see if I'm no the only one. Below is my list, as far as I can remember (there might be more hidden in boxes, I'm not rightly certain!):
1. Kaypro 4 "Portable" - Z-80 / CPM based, 64K RAM, no HDD, 2 x 5.25" FDD
2. Compaq "Luggable" - 8088 based, 256K RAM, 2 x 5.25" FDD, added a 20MB "Hard Card"
3. Mac 512 - B&W, 512K RAM, single 3.5" FDD, external 40MB SCSI HDD
4. 2 x IBM "Shop Controller" - 8088/8086 based, 512K RAM (max for those boards), 5.25" FDD, 10MB internal HDD, SNA for running PLCs.
5. Commodore "Plus+ 4"
6. Apple iie
7. Timex "Sinclair 1000" - Z-80 based, 4K RAM on the board - expandable to 16K with external module, "touchpad" keyboard with "shortcuts" for programming.
8. Compaq 386 PC - 256K RAM, 10MB internal HDD, GeoWorks OS( ! )
9. Probably a dozen or more other PC machines, in various states of repair. Believe it or don't, I actually set aside six of them to be donated (I know, right! Sick in the head am I!)
Anyway, have fun with this and it will be interesting to see what "collections-o-stuff" folks have squirreled away in basements and garages!
