pollers and Orion redo

Hi I have been tasked in re organizing a Orion implementation -

We have two sites - corp and a datacenter - corp has very few objects (probably will be like a ADDC and mostly switches and UPS's)

We have two installs of orion that have their own DB for each site.

I would like to collapse everything into one Orion server/One DB in the DC (were we have the most object's) and deploy an additional Poller in the corp office - there is a layer 2 pipe connecting the two sites.

This what I need to know and will be asked:

1) what's the cost of an additional poller vs the price of a whole Orion install

2) What happens if the L2 link goes down - will I be overran with alerts of the objects the poller monitors - I am not understanding properly how a poller works?

3) if so is there a way to create the alerts for the corp objects so they check the status of the L2 before sending any specific object alerts?

If anyone could link me to some good implementation images that would be great.

1) depending on the Modules and the license count you have in your Corp site. to fully answer the price of the whole Install we need more info. the additional poller is about 19K$ List price... don't know what your discounts are..

2) that's where "Dependencies" come into place. Make everything at your corp site dependent on the L2 Link and they will go to "unknown" when the connection is down

what would the SW masters suggest to go with a poller or go with two seperate installs or the poller method

i'd go with an additional polling engine, assuming bandwidth and latency are OK.

Reason: better planning with licenses / correlation in reports between servers and sites possible / only one "instance" to maintain / EOC is not (yet) a thing I would recommend -> we are getting there but not yet / single site to look at / ...

Latency should be less than 100ms (that's my personal experience, i am not sure what the official recommendations are)

Bandwidth: at least 10Mbit/s
