How does an Active Agent determine Node Down status?

We are at a point now where we make very heavy use of the Agents using them in Active Agent or Agent Initiated mode and I am now curious what criteria is used for those nodes to determine a node down status?

I ask because last week I had an agent node go down but Orion never reported it as down; however, it did show 100% packet loss.

In this specific case the node was completely offline sitting at a black boot screen so the agent wasn't running at all.  That's why I am confused on why Orion would tell me it's 100% pack loss but no node down event.

I agree, I definitely need to get upgraded.

Regardless of operational mode, the AMS attempts to communicate with the agent through the established encrypted channel. If the agent responds, it's considered to be 'Up'. If the Agent does not respond, a retry is attempted before it's marked as down. In your case it sounds like the agent itself was functioning, but the job engine plugin was not. As stated in a previous thread, I would recommend upgrading to the 1.7 version of the Agent where I believe this issue is resolved.
