Execute VBS script as alert action

Hi,

I want to execute a command on a remote computer as an alert action.

For this I have written a vbs-script, however I dont know how to make it run with some kind of default credentials (like the account I put there to use for APM) as I dont plan to put any cleartext password inside a script or alarm...

Is there any way to do this?

I haven't tried it, but you might be able to use a trusted connection if your database is using mixed mode authentication.

The only thing that comes to mind is changing the user that runs the alert service to something that has access to the remote system. At that point you shouldn't have to offer any credentials.

hmm, is there no other solution to make Orion execute one line of code on a remote machine?

What I am trying to do is use an smtp send mail program to send an email from a remote server that the internet link is down (as the internet line at this location would be down and I need to use another locations internet link to send the message...).

Once the alert engine hands off control to the vbscript it has no effect on how it runs its instructions. It can't help it authenticate, pass on credentials, or anything else aside from letting the script inherit the permissions of the user running the alert engine service.

Taking a step back, if you have access to the remote system and the remote system has access to a working SMTP server, why don't you use an email alert with the SMTP server adjusted so it uses that SMTP server instead of the local one?

unfortunately the remote system does not have an smtp server...

i would just let a small exe run that would log into a webmail account via smtp and send a text-email...

I was hoping that Orion would be able to pass variables to the script like myscript.vbs ${user} ${pass}.

If I would do it from the local host and the internet is down, it would be unable to send the email...
