How can I do an inventory report of all my switches with NTM?

How can I do an inventory report of all my switches in my environment
with Solar winds NTM. I am new to using it, but I am kind of in a pickle as my
Sir. System Engineer is asking me how many switches we currently have, is there
a way to do this without have to use a lot of resources or dragging down the network.
I just need a report or count not a full scale. Map, Help.

Some options I use--maybe one of these will fit your need.

1. Click on Home

2. Click on Reports

3. Click in the Search box and type in "nodes"

4. Find the "All Nodes" report and select it

5. Click on View Report

Granted, the above process relies on NCM being installed--you didn't say you had NCM, only NPM.

You could also search on "Inventory" instead of Nodes and find several useful reports.  Some of these reports DO NOT give you the total number of switches--particularly when you've built switch stacks of two or more devices.

• Device Types:  Displays how many of each type of device is monitored
• Cisco Inventory:  Gives you a report of Cisco Devices, grouped by Type and sorted by Caption
• Physical Entities (Serial Number):  Includes every port--it's a lot of data!

Remember, you can view these as .pdf's, or export them to Excel--very handy!

• Physical Entities (Serial Number) v2:  Gives you the serial number of each device--possibly very useful for your exact purpose.  I like this one best--it shows all switches in a stack, as well as their serial numbers, so you can verify your SmartNet contract costs!

The great folks on Thwack will be able to give you a cooler way to query the SWQL database than I use, but I also have built a custom report in Report Writer that makes things simple.  Here a sample of the output:

RDP to your NPM server and follow these steps.

1. Open Report Writer, click New.

2. Add these fields:

Finally, Click Execute SQL Query, or Click Preview.
