my simple email alert don't trigger

Hello

I try since hours that when one of my devices goes down, that it triggers a simple email to notify me about the event. Everything seems to be configured correctly, but I never get a email about the event, that a device is down. But when the device comes up I get an email, to inform me about the recovery:

Subject: [Devicename][PING] [ping] is back up

Devicename

2 previous alerts sent

critical failures: 6

Thats very strange, because the emails is talking about 2 previous alerts sent, but as I said before I never got a email about the down state. Thats issue is since I set up the IPMonitor Version: 9.0 build 1236, or in other word it never has worked .

Any ideas?

A few things to check:

1. Open the Settings page for the Monitor that failed to notify you. Click "DownTime Simulator" at the top of this page and see if the Alert/Actions are getting triggered while in the light-red state.

2. Check the text within the "Send Failure Notification" text box. Could there be something in this text box that is causing a spam filter to block the email? What is different between the "Send Failure Notification" text box and the "Send Recovery Notifications" text box?

3. Is it possible that the failing Monitors are monitoring a resource that is needed for ipMonitor to send mail? For example, if ipMonitor cannot ping a few systems because a Router or Switch is down, it probably cannot reach the mail server either.

If none of this helps, you might want to consider opening a case online...

Hello Cipher,

This is likely due to the fact that the email action is set to only trigger on recovery. Here's how to check:

Click the "Configuration" tab.
Click "Alert List"
Click the Alert in question.
Click the Email Action in question.

Among the following check boxes, which ones are checked:

Send Failure Notifications
Send Recovery Notifications
Send Information Notifications

Make sure the first one is checked.

Wow . . . that did the trick, it seems to be, that the default text was to strange and was causing that the spam filter did bloch the email . . .
