Component Monitor Tests All Failing

  Hello all,

  I'm new to Solarwinds, but my organization has been using for some time, so I'm playing catch up.

I'm finding that the Component Monitor tests in SAM are consistently failing against any node.  I consistently get a "Test failed with "unknown" status, and sometimes this includes "Could not find file C:\"Windows\Temp\3fpmfza5.dll"." The file name changes, naturally.

I was originally thinking this was configuration, as I was trying to create a new template, but this is failing using all templates and component monitors I've tested with, so maybe there's something wrong in Solarwinds?

It's likely that you may have a hung SWJobEngineWorker2.exe tasks which cannot access the C:\Windows\Temp folder. This may be caused by McAfee or other 3rd party antivirus solutions.

Would you be able to stop the Orion Services with the Orion Service Manager found at Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Orion Service Manager. Click the Shutdown Everything button. Then in the Windows Task Manager please ensure all SWJobEngineWorker2.exe processes are ended, manually if necessary. Once complete please delete the contents of the 'C:\Windows\Temp' directory. If necessary you may need to reboot the machine to clear the hung processes and unlock the files contained in the temp directory.

Further can you ensure the following files and directories are excluded from your antivirus protection:

Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP:

c:\Inetpub\SolarWinds\

c:\Program Files\Common Files\SolarWinds\

c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\

Also please ensure that McAfee is not blocking access to C:\Windows\Temp.

Once completed open the Orion Service Manager and click "Start Everything". It will take a few minutes for services to resume where they left off once they are started. It will then take a few more minutes for the data to populate in the web console.
