Syslog

Is there a way to export syslog messages from the SQL server to a text file? We want to be able to archive the syslog messages. I can't figure out if I have to create a script or what. I know that you can export config backups in Cirrus for archiving purposes.

There are several way to get this done, here is one of the quickest:
Launch the
Syslog Viewer
on the Orion server. Under
Alert / Filter Rule
create a new rule, name it Syslog Log, on the
Alert Actions Tab
add an action to
Log the Message to a file
(don't forget to create the empty file, and make sure the destination disk has sufficient space...) Depending on your environment and the number of devices sending messages, the file can grow exponentially large. That is probably the easiest way to do what your looking for; although, you could also create an ODBC connection to the database and pull the Syslog table data as well. That’s a little bit more involved.
Hope that helps.
