I have a request to monitor access requests to file folders on Windows servers.
I can not find any information if SAM can be used for this level of monitoring.
What are you monitoring it for? That the remote user/app can access the folder? I'm fairly sure there are templates that can be used to access a folder to see if it's reachable. Or are you trying to monitor for access from people that shouldn't be accessing it?
The request is to monitor all access requests to a specific folder on the server, both approved and non-approved access requests.
While you can enable auditing, and the information will be stored in the security log files, monitoring it with SAM will be a PITA. What triggers the failure conditions? What are you planning on doing with the information? How do you plan on aggregating the information? As SAM poles on a frequency, are you looking for the same user logging in repeatedly and failing? All of these are very hard questions to answer from SAM's perspective as far as I know.
This sounds like a perfect candidate for SolarWinds Log and Event Manger (LEM).
Agreed. Jonathan Angliss is on the right track. Log & Event Manager's File Integrity Monitoring capabilities are precisely what dbuchholz is looking for.
