Threshold for monitoring

Question

Hi all,

Can anyone please suggest the normal possible threshold values that could be given to monitor memory and physical disk utilization of a server? The performance monitoring checks included are :

A .(For memory usage monitoring )

1) RAM used                    -  current threshold set is 8073 mb

2) Non pageable RAM      -  current threshold set is 2 MB

3) Page File usage           - current threshold set is 70%

4) Pages/second              -  20 pages/sec

B. (For Disk Utilization)

1) Threshold for write Queue length is set as 2

2) Threshold for read Queue length is set as 2

3)Threshold for Disk Busy Time  is set as 50%

We are getting false alerts in the tool. Great if anyone can give suggestions to reset these values asap

Thank you for the reply. But I am using (GFi Maxfocus) as my monitoring tool. Any advise you could give regarding threshold setting in GFI?

I think what you want to do .. instead of setting up "static" thresholds across the board, is to gather a baseline - you will need to set each server up individually for the thresholds (I would only deal with those that you have received false positives on) .  Each server performs a different function and will call upon resources differently.  I added all servers, most all the servers took the Orion General Thresholds.  I had to manually set other servers to accommodate for "peaks".  Fine tuning will get you where you want... I promise.

Edit a node, at the bottom, you will see Alerting Thresholds, click on Manage Orion General Thresholds - and you can change the Threshold settings and apply it to individual resources: CPU, Memory Usage, Response Time, and Packet Loss.

As far as your disk utilization - Go into Manage Advance Alerts - (Orion Settings)  - The "default" alert for disk utilization - Alert me when the free space of a volume is less than 5% - check the box - then click on Edit:

The following dialogue box appears:

Now click on Polling Settings - you have the ability to manipulate the "default" settings that Orion is using to poll the node (be very careful manipulating these settings) - I would think that 5 % would be fine for the disk utilization alert ...  Good Luck ..
