Blackberry Enterprise 5.0.1 Cluster montior

Has anyone developed a template to monitor a Blackberry Enterprise 5.0.1 cluster that they wouldn't mind sharing? Right now, I'm just monitoring both servers, but whichever is not the primary always has the mail store service, policy service and synchronization service as down. So, ideally, I guess you would have a template that can detect if the server is primary or standby an only monitor those services on the current primary server.

Odd..... my mentor just asked me to resaerch this. We had a problem with our Mail Store Service this morning, it was stuck on starting and he had to figure out that was the problem and then restart the service. This could have been resovled much more quickly if we had that service moitored. I'll let you know if I find something and vice versa

We already have a template for our BB server we were just trying to add a specific service. I'm kinda new with Solarwinds and I think its the first time my mentor had been playing around with APM. I figured it out though and it was surprisingly easy

Questionario, I think the BES 5.0.1 monitor in content exchange is one that I put up there. With a BES cluster, there is no "cluster service." It's an active/standby cluster, and there are three services that ONLY run on the active node. This causes the current standby node to always show up on the down applications resource. Somehow you would need to poll the node to determine if it's active or standby, then poll the status of the services that should be running. I have not found a way within Orion to accomplish this, although I have not spent a lot of time on it either. I suspect it will have to be a custom script monitor, I just haven't had the time to write one yet.

Hi all,

Is there something new on the subject of monitoring active/backup clusters (not BB specifically), it's a big issue now days when many new applications come with this kind of architecture (no cluster service).

Anyone come up with anything on this? I need/would like to get this figured out also as soon as possible.

My only thought right now is to run a query against the DB to see which node is active and which is passive.

You will likely have better luck posting this question in the BlackBerry Forums, though a quick search leads me to believe you might not have much luck there either. Have you considered contacting BlackBerry Support for assistance?

yeah...blackberry sent me a kb with where to find their MIB file. But gave no answer as it is a third party app. I'll find the kb..might have been posted recently on the bes 5.03 thwack feed/forum.

I've been through the entirety of the Blackberry MIB Files and there are no options for actively polling the state of the BES server (Primary/Standby or Active/Passive) through SNMP GET operations. The only real option is to monitor state change via SNMP Traps.
