Advise on alert configuration

Hi all,

Just want to ask everyone for some help regarding configuring alerts. For the default alerts like when an application goes into warning/critial warn me. I have changed this to only if the monitor is in warning or critical for 5 min. My reason for this is to not be alerted every time there is a spike but when it is persistent in warning or critical.

Is this correct? does anyone else do this?

Your thinking is bang on and exactly what I do with all the default alerts.

We're actually working on some improvements in SAM that should make this easier to configure, and vastly more powerful. I did however want to point out that if your polling interval is 5 minutes, then delaying the alert by 5 minutes may not necessarily meet the criteria for a sustained condition, as only one polling sample may have been collected in that time. Instead, I recommend increasing your delay by at least one minute greater than the configured polling interval for the sustained condition to function as you intended.
