Alerting on available disk space.

I have created a group of SQL servers, I want to create an alert that monitors all the physical drives (for 21 sql servers) checking the disk space available and send an alert when to space is 15gb or less on any of the servers. Is this possible and if so, how can it be done. Thanks, CEDee

Yes. In my case, I created a daily scheduled report against a custom SQL query. Here:

((NullIf(VolumeSize,-2)-NullIf(VolumeSpaceUsed,-2)) < 1073741824) AND
((NullIf(VolumeSize,-2)-NullIf(VolumeSpaceUsed,-2)) > 0) AND
(Volumes.VolumeType = 'Fixed Disk') AND
(Volumes.Caption NOT LIKE '%MSDTC%') AND
(FullName NOT LIKE '%citrix[0-9][0-9]%') AND
(FullName NOT LIKE '%CyberSH1%')
)

As you can see, it displays volumes with less than 1gig of space and it excludes special types of disk that are of no interest to me. Another way you can do what you describe, if you want an instant alert, is to create an alert against a group of volumes, I think this is possible with 10.1.1. You didn't specify your NPM version.

There is another option that you can use if you want the alert to trigger when the poll determines your threshold is crossed, rather than waiting to look at a daily report.

As has been mentioned in the forums previously, you can add a custom field to your volumes, specify a threshold value in that custom field, and then create an alert that compares the volume's space free against the value in the custom field.
If you want to limit the alert to a specific set of nodes then you'll have to write the alert to check some other condition that can be used to limit the alert to the 21 servers you're interested in.

Search the forums for custom thresholds and you'll find a few posts that should give you all the info you need.

A simple alert for what you need. In the example shown, i've set up an alert with the following parameters:

Looks to see that the custom property "Function" is equal to "File & Print Servers";
Looks to see that it is a Tier 1 server (we have our f&p servers broken down into 3 tiers);
Volume Type is Fixed Disk, as opposed to physical or virtual memory;
Space available is less than 1 GB

Alert gets triggered when condition exists for 5 minutes or more
