Orion V8

Is there any news on when v8 will be released the last we heard was Q3 2006 as we are now half way through Q3 it would be nice of Solarwinds let us know if they have any ideas when v8 will be released?

I think Duke Nukem Forever will be released before Orion 8

At least I got in on the last Vista beta ...

Outside of the enormous CPU hogging, I was reasonably pleased.

I do have very high hopes for v8. I was hoping it would be out already so I wouldn't have to do an extensive QA test, but I'll deal.

Considering we've all paid maintenance it's pretty poor Solarwinds offer no roadmap or at least any indication of timescales for new versions/features.

We certainly won't be renewing maintenance again until v8 is actually released.

Anyone from solarwinds out there you must have some idea when we can expect to see V8. This is starting to feel like all the other expected release dates for V8 in the last two years.... I'm getting a bit tired of waiting for the custom mibs I was promised were right around the corner two years ago.

Can you tell I'm frustrated about this??

We're working on Orion v8 now and we should be able to release a date for the beta testing to begin with a few weeks. Additionally, we're working on a roadmap that we can publish within the user community.

As for Duke Nukem, it always kind of made me dizzy. I'm more of a Doom/Quake guy...

Finally, someone who got my joke.

Josh, can you give us any teasers/spoilers as to what will be in Orion v8? I'm sure there are some features that have yet to be decided whether they make the final build or not, but can you tell us some of the things that are known to be in Orion v8?

This would be very nice. Knowing what is in SWs future may prevent us from spending money elsewhere. I would hate to go out and purchase a solution that SWs did not currently support to then turn around the next month and find out that feature was just added.

We almost need a network management tool to bring all our different network tools to one interface.

We're in the same boat. My company has already approved the purchase of Orion, but I have to wait a couple more weeks. In the meantime, I'm still looking at other solutions because they have some features that Orion doesn't have yet. We'll probably ultimately end up with Orion because it is a really good product, but seems like people have been asking for the same features over and over for a couple of years now, and those are the same features that I really need to have. I think they're coming in v8, and that's good news! However, it would be nice to have a better feel for where Orion was headed. If I knew for certain that the features I really want to see were on the roadmap, I'd just stop looking elsewhere.

same here. Growing frustrated with the periodic promises of "it's coming" Give a committment date, if they can't do that then they are nowwhere close to releasing anything. My company is on the verge of deciding what their enterprise monitoring solution will be. I'm pushing for Solarwinds, but could sell that a little better if I could provide a release date and an overview of what some of the new features are. I seriously doubt they will release it this year. They need to address our posts, because it is customers like us that make them a successful company. More presence is needed from them, this is their forum, afterall.

We have made this decision as well. We have reported several bugs and have seen no fixes for the past 6 months. There's no reason to pay support if there aren't going to be any updates. SW won't see any more maintenace dollars from us until we see v8 from them.

I hear you. v7.8.5 has been a major headache for us and all I get from SW tech support is "we're busy working on v8".

I can tell you that they have a netflow reader coming out in beta in about 60 days. It sounds like it will be another add-on though and not part of the main product. I think we are also going to wait to buy maintenance until v8 comes out to see if that increases functionality. If all new functionality is going to have to be purchased separately then we will probably stay with v7.

That's a good idea....We are currently reviewing our maintenance agreement with sales. Maybe the sales dept can motivate the dev group to get this done.
