Advanced Alert still Active when device is unmanaged

Hi guys,

Has anyone else come across this?

On one of our Orion NPM installations the 'High Packet Loss' Advanced Alert is enabled and is monitoring all devices.

Two nodes were turned off, were then set to Unmanaged but the 'High Packet Loss' alert remains Active in EOC and NPM. I have turned the alert off, waited for it to clear and then turned it back on but the same two devices then alert again.

Is this a known bug and if so is there a way to clear them off but keep the alert turned on?

It's a Basic Alert but i've added the Unmanaged state to the 'Rest if status is...' and that has sorted the issue.

We have an issue similar to this, where a server has failed, so we unmanage it, but the alert is still showing as active. Even if you set it to unmanage, it doesnt remove the alert.

So the way we get around it is to go into the Database and find the table for Active Alerts, and then delete the row for that alert. Now that it is unmanaged it shouldn't trigger another alert.

Work around, but would be good feature if it can be built into the Application.

Couldn't you simply clear the alert using the Advanced Alert Manager?

As i say, turning the alert off, letting the Active Alert clear and then turning the alert back on still generates an Active Alert for the device.

Well I raised a ticket with Solarwinds support and they say it's by design... Pretty poor design if you ask me. If it's a basic alert then you have to disable and enable it to clear it, this also clears any other devices that were triggered under the same alert.

With advanced alerts you can clear it through the Alerts tab.

I still think this is useless as when you set a device to unmanaged you want alerting to stop on it not alert with an Unmanaged state when none of your alerts have that trigger.

I you add the condition "Node Status is not equal to UnManaged" does that fix it?

(or interface status if it applies to interfaces)
