Monitoring Apps with RPC instead of WMI

It is my understanding that you can monitor apps using RPC instead of WMI. However, I cannot find a thread or any other documentation that shows you how to do this. Does anyone know how to do this or know of any documentation for this?

Do you have APM 3.0? If you do, you can use the Windows Performance monitor component to read performance counter statistics instead of the WMI monitor.
