Backup method of receiving alerts

We (my company) need to devise a backup method for receiving the alerts that indicate our network is down. In other words, when the network is down in such a way that prevents Orion alert emails from going out, we can't get the pages that we need. It's a catch-22. I am curious what other people are doing to solve this problem. Long ago, we had a server with a modem, but that was shut down.

Same issue here. Check out the NotePage application which is integrated into the Orion product (sort of).

When our FW dies, our e-mails die. Thus, for my FW alerts, I use NotePage to send a manual page (read : modem) to a pager. Many providers have direct interfaces into which you can transmit non e-mail SMS messages via modems. This would be a custom alert specifically for devices which are critical to your alerting path. This is working for us on a pager, but I haven't tested the SMS capability of it.
