Change domain service account password

Hello,

The person I replaced setup the username and password for all of our monitoring on APM and NPM. No one knows the password and I need the password for testing. I thought about changing the password on the domain but I need to know if this will cause any headaches for me. I have enough to deal with already. The username and password is only used for monitoring.

I'm assuming you mean the account used by NPM for WMI nodes, right?

In any case, you can do this, but you'll have to be fast about it:

1) in your web portal, open the "credentials library" pages for both NPM (admin page, left side, near the bottom) and APM/SAM (Sam settings, right side in the middle)

2) open the credential you are talking about to edit it and set everything the way you want but don't click save

3) In AD, change the password for the account

4) in SolarWinds, click Save

You MAY fire a couple of alerts if the target server is in a different location and the AD credentials haven't updated, but not so many that you lock out the account. BUT you will want to watch the account in AD closely to make sure that doesn't happen. If it does, it means that something somewhere is using the old credentials.
